Travel documents: Have I packed all airline, cruise or train “live” or e-tickets in my carry-on bag? Hotel and auto rental confirmations? Travel insurance certificate?
Notify Bank: Contact your bank(s) to alert them of your foreign travel destination(s) and dates so they won’t block charges on your credit card.
ID: Don’t forget your passport and visas (or other form of photo ID if traveling domestically). Make a copy of your passport to leave at home with a trusted friend or family member AND bring one copy with you, kept separate from your passport.
Foreign Currency: Do I have some currency for the country or countries I am visiting? Check currency conversion at www.gocurrency.com.
Check-in: Confirm your flights and check-in 24 hours in advance. You can even print your Boarding Pass on-line in most cases (to save time at the airport). Did you remember to check in on-line for your cruise reservation?
Driver’s License/Permit: Is an International Driver’s Permit required for the country(s) you are visiting? If so, you can obtain this at an AAA office. Make sure you also take your state-issued license if you are renting or leasing a vehicle.
Emergency Contact: You can register your itinerary with the Department of State in case of an emergency (yours or family member’s at home). Go to www.travelregistration.state.gov.
Credit Cards: Take all credit cards with you that you used for travel deposits (e.g. – rental car reservations, etc.).
Medication: Has medication been packed in my carry-on bag? You may want to bring a copy of your prescription if placing in container other than original.
Liquids on Airplane: Have all carry-on liquids and gels been placed in a 3.4 oz. or smaller container and put in ONE (per person) clear quart-sized bag for airport security check-in?
Camera: Do I have my camera, film or memory card and extra batteries?
Luggage: Make sure all checked luggage pieces have identification attached.
Electrical Currency: Have I packed an electrical converter and/or adapter appropriate for the country(s) I will be visiting? Check requirements at Lewis N Clark.
Mail/Newspaper: Have I made arrangements for mail/newspaper to be picked up by a friend or placed on hold by the post office? Go to www.usps.com to request your mail to be put on hold for 3 to 30 days.
Weather: Check weather before your departure at www.worldweather.org.
